Type 1 Diabetes is caused by the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas not producing insulin at all. Now old bad beta cells can be cleared out with a repurposed cancer drug, and functioning beta cells produced from stem cells can replace these.
Now tests are proceeding to encase these beta cells in a “ channel array device” that allows them to get nutrients and function while keeping the immune cells away!
